Linux hardware vendor System76 announced today a new variant of its Oryx Pro Linux-powered laptop that ships with the upcoming COSMIC desktop environment on top of the Pop!_OS Linux 24.04 LTS distribution, designed for engineering, developers, machine learning & AI, and gaming.

Featuring a stunning 16-inch 2K matte display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and 240Hz refresh rate, the new Oryx Pro laptop is powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor with 12 cores, 24 threads, and 5.1 GHz clock speed, up to 96GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM, up to 8TB M.2 PCIe Gen4 storage, and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 graphics.

“The best combination of portability, performance, and quality visuals to help you engineer a brighter future. The Oryx Pro is back to supercharge your mission: more power, better display, and it will be the first laptop pre-loaded with the new Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS beta,” said System76.

The best thing about the new Oryx Pro notebook is that it comes preinstalled with the beta version of the Ubuntu-based Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS distro, which features the COSMIC Beta desktop environment. Of course, you can choose to buy the Linux laptop with Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat).

Connectivity-wise, the COSMIC-powered Oryx Pro laptop features Wi-Fi 6E wireless, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.4, two USB 4 Type-C ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, an HDMI port, two DisplayPort ports via USB 4 40Gbps Type-C, a microSD card reader, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

The laptop also features a multitouch clickpad, a backlit US QWERTY keyboard with NumPad, stereo speakers, a 1.0MP HD webcam, Kensington Lock, and an 80Wh 4-cell Polymer battery. You can configure and buy the new Oryx Pro notebook starting at $2,599.00 USD, right now from System76’s online store.
