Puppy Linux BookwormPup64 10.0.12 has been released for fans of this Debian-based small, fast, customizable, and full-featured Linux distro optimized to support older and newer computers.
Puppy Linux BookwormPup64 10.0.12 is a new Woof-CE build that includes all upstream security updates from the recently released Debian 12.12 “Bookworm” operating system series, which arrived last week, along with Debian 13.1 “Trixie”, featuring 135 bug fixes for miscellaneous packages and 83 security updates.
As expected, this new release of BookwormPup64 is powered by Linux kernel 6.1.148 LTS, patched with the latest upstream security update from Debian Bookworm’s repositories. Also included is the latest Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) web browser, version 140.2.0.
Among other new features, BookwormPup64 10.0.12 introduces AndroidMTP as an alternative to the PupMTP utility for transferring files from MTP devices, accessible from Main Menu > Filesystem, as well as ARandR as a simple frontend to XRandR for simplifying the management of multiple monitors, accessible from Main Menu > Desktop.
“The custom screen layout can be saved as an executable script in /root/Startup for persistence after rebooting,” said the devs. “ARandR is provided as an alternative to LXRandR, which is also available in BW64 [BookwormPup64].”
Other than that, BookwormPup64 10.0.12 is here to adjust the MIME type in the cherrytree.desktop file of the CherryTree note-taking application by changing application/cherrytree-ctb to text/cherrytree-ctb. It also moves CherryTree’s manual to a new location under /usr/share/cherrytree/notes/.
You can download Puppy Linux BookwormPup64 10.0.12 right now from the official website if you’re looking for a small and fast distro for your old computer. Since the Debian Project will now release new Debian 12 “Bookworm” updates every 4 months, BookwormPup64 will follow suit.
