LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) 7 Is Now Available for Download – 9to5Linux

The long-anticipated LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) 7 release is now available for download based on the Debian GNU/Linux 13 “Trixie” operating system series.

Powered by the long-term supported Linux 6.12 LTS kernel series, the Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 7 (codename Gigi) release features the Cinnamon 6.4.13 desktop environment, which means that it comes with all the features from the Linux Mint 22.2 “Zara” release.

Some of these features include fingerprint authentication via a new Fingwit app, accent color support for XDG Desktop Portal XApp, improved libadwaita compatibility, theme updates, and an improved Wayland session.

One new feature in the Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE) 7 release is support for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) installations, which means that LMDE can be pre-installed on computers that are sold throughout the world.

“Thanks to OEM installs, Linux Mint can be pre-installed on computers which are sold throughout the World. It’s a very important feature and it’s one of the very few remaining things which wasn’t supported by LMDE,” said Clement Lefebvre. “This feature is also used by individuals who either donate or sell their computers.”

Linux Mint Debian Edition’s goal is to ensure that Linux Mint will deliver the same user experience if Ubuntu will not be around anymore, and it’s also a development target for Linux Mint developers to guarantee that their in-house software is compatible outside of Ubuntu.

Check out the release notes for the known issues and other details about Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 “Gigi”, which you can download right now from the official download mirrors. Linux Mint Debian Edition 7 is a long-term support release (LTS) that will receive software and security updates for a couple of years.
