CachyOS ISO Snapshot for August 2025 Introduces a New Package Dashboard – 9to5Linux

Arch Linux-based CachyOS distribution has a new ISO snapshot for August 2025 that brings the latest package updates from the Arch Linux repositories, as well as various other improvements.

With this release, the CachyOS devs introduce a brand-new, web-based dashboard for finding packages across all CachyOS repositories and viewing details about the latest updates. The new dashboard lets users sort packages by architecture, package name, repository, and update time, and it features light and dark themes.

“For each package, the PKGBUILD source is clearly shown, providing transparency about which PKGBUILDs come from Arch Linux and which we’ve modified,” said the devs. “Packages without a listed “Source” are pulled from the AUR (Arch User Repository). There’s also a binary download link for each package.”

Another interesting thing about this release is that it ships with the long-term supported Linux 6.12 LTS kernel series as a fallback option for those who encounter hardware issues with the latest Linux 6.16 kernel. However, the ISO image now defaults to Linux kernel 6.12 LTS for stability.

“Using the LTS kernel could cause future compatibility gaps — for example, when new AMD or Intel GPUs require a newer kernel. If needed, we’ll consider bundling a second kernel in the ISO to ensure users with the latest hardware can boot and install smoothly,” explained the CachyOS devs.

Among other changes, the CachyOS ISO snapshot for August 2025 brings support for the Niri window manager, support for bootable snapshots when installing CachyOS with the Btrfs file system and using the GRUB bootloader, and S0ix sleep support for NVIDIA users.

Some of the in-house apps have also been updated, including Cachy-Update, which received a system tray indicator to inform users about available updates, as well as Proton-CachyOS, which received a DLSS version upgrader and an option to force the latest preset, and some other enhancements.

Last but not least, the CachyOS release for August 2025 improves the Limine bootloader and the Launch Installer button. Check out the release notes for more details about the changes included in the new CachyOS release, which is available for download right now from the official website as Desktop and Handheld flavors.
