The Armbian team informs 9to5Linux today about the release of Armbian 25.8 as a significant update that enhances performance, security, and hardware compatibility for a variety of ARM-based single-board computers.
Armbian 25.8 is here about three months after Armbian 25.5 and introduces support for the latest and greatest Linux 6.16 kernel series, as well as support for new ARM boards, including the Mekotronics R58 HD, NanoPi R3S LTS, Radxa Cubie A5E, Orange Pi 5 Pro, Banana Pi R4, CAINIAO CNIoT-CORE, and KickPi K2B.
The boards that were already supported received some love too, as Armbian 25.8 brings key fixes for DSI displays on the Raspberry Pi 5, a touchscreen driver for the NanoPi M6, improved audio functionality on the Radxa ROCK Pi S, fixes for Wake-on-LAN service on the Helios4, and support for thermal sensors on the Radxa ROCK 5C.
“The latest version is a testament to the power of community-driven development, packing a wealth of improvements, expanded platform support, and robust kernel and bootloader updates that will benefit developers and enthusiasts alike,” said the Armbian team.
This release also brings a set of userspace, build framework, and configuration utility improvements, including the addition of Debian 13 “Trixie” as a supported release, support for the new loong64 architecture, improved WireGuard support, improved Pi-hole integration, and Cockpit support with KVM integration.
Among other noteworthy changes, the Armbian 25.8 release updates U-Boot and Arm Trusted Firmware (ATF) firmware across multiple boards to enhance the reliability of the boot process, introduces support for new modules, such as Ghost CMS, improves Docker installations, and ships the latest security patches.
Check out the release announcement page and the full changelog for more details about the changes included in Armbian 25.8, which you can download right now from the official website for a wide range of ARM devices, including most of the Raspberry Pi models.
