Amarok 3.3.1 Music Player Released with Improvements to Scripting Support – 9to5Linux

Amarok 3.3.1 has been released as the first maintenance update to the Amarok 3.3 series of this open-source, cross-platform, and free feature-rich music player software written in Qt.

Amarok 3.3 arrived last month as the first release to be fully ported to Qt 6, offering users a modern UI/UX experience. Now, Amarok 3.3.1 is here to improve scripting support by enabling saving and loading of script console items, autocompletion in the script console, and re-enabling additional scripting functionality.

This release also converts the remaining main UI toolbar buttons to use the icons from the default theme, clears out remnants of the now-discontinued MusicDNS service, tries to export as-compatible-as-possible playlist files, transmits embedded cover art through MPRIS, and no longer displays the transcoding dialog after canceling a download.

Some bugs were fixed as well, including a startup crash when loading network information, some random crashes during playback, the broken MusicBrainz search, continuing playback after time-coded tracks (cue files, etc.), the example permission grant command in database settings, and an issue with equalizer gains not updating when selecting some presets.

Last but not least, Amarok now properly starts CD playback if Amarok is not already running. Check out the release announcement page for more details about the changes included in Amarok 3.3.1, which is available for download from the same location as a source tarball that you need to compile on your Linux distro.

You can also install Amarok from the stable software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution, or as a Flatpak app from Flathub. Features of Amarok include dynamic playlists, collection management with rating support, support for basic iPod, MTP, and UMS devices, cover manager, replay gain support, and scripting support.
