Wireshark 4.4.9 Protocol Analyzer Released with Updated Protocols and Bug Fixes – 9to5Linux

Wireshark 4.4.9 has been released today as the ninth maintenance update to the latest Wireshark 4.4 stable series of this popular, open-source, free, and cross-platform network protocol analyzer software for Linux, macOS, and Windows systems.

Coming one and a half months after Wireshark 4.4.8, this release updates the support for several network protocols, including BACapp, LIN (Local Interconnect Network), MySQL, RDM (Remote Device Management), SABP (Service Area Broadcast Protocol), SCCP (Signalling Connection Control Part), sFlow (Sampled Flow), and SSH (Secure Shell).

Wireshark 4.4.9 also fixes several bugs, including an issue where SCCP LUDT segmentation decoding failed, a bug in the LZ77 decoder that caused it to read a 16-bit length when it should read a 32-bit length, incorrect RDM Product Detail List ID Disect, and a bug causing the Ciscodump tool to fail to start the capture on Cisco IOS.

In addition, this release fixes an issue where the closing context tag 1 was not shown when viewing a BACnet WritePropertyMultiple request. According to the bug report, the tag is present in the raw packet as byte 0x1f, but it is being ignored by the disassembly.

Unfortunately, this new Wireshark release does not include new or updated capture file support, nor updated file format support, nor new protocols. Check out the release notes for more details about the changes included in Wireshark 4.4.9, which you can download as a source tarball from the official website.

If compiling software from sources is not your cup of tea, you can install Wireshark from the stable software repositories of your favorite GNU/Linux distribution, or as a universal Flatpak app from Flathub. However, please note that the Flatpak app does not support capturing data.

Wireshark is still the world’s most popular network protocol analyzer. It is used by network specialists around the globe for troubleshooting, analysis, development, and education purposes.
