Ubuntu 25.10 Official Flavors Are Now Available for Download, Here’s What’s New – 9to5Linux

As part of today’s release of Ubuntu 25.10 (Questing Quokka), all the official Ubuntu flavors have been updated to the same version, so here’s a look at their new features and improvements.

Ubuntu 25.10’s official flavors include Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Edubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu Cinnamon, Ubuntu MATE, and Ubuntu Kylin.

All of them are powered by Linux kernel 6.17 and include the same updated core components and applications as the Ubuntu 25.10 release, such as the adoption of the sudo-rs as the default implementation of sudo, Dracut as the default initramfs-tools, and Rust Coreutils as the default implementation of GNU Core Utilities.

Kubuntu 25.10 and Ubuntu Studio 25.10 both ship with the latest KDE Plasma 6.4.5 desktop environment by default, which is accompanied by the KDE Frameworks 6.17 and KDE Gear 25.08.1 software suites, all built against the Qt 6.9.2 open-source application framework.

Ubuntu Studio 25.10 also adds an optional layout for macOS refugees who wish to have a familiar layout consisting of a lower dock and a global menu, new configuration options in Ubuntu Studio Audio Configuration, and JackTrip for networking audio between computers or collaborate remotely, new audio plugins and synthesizers, as well as new apps, including PhotoCollage, PicPlanner, and Internet DJ Console.

Lubuntu 25.10 ships with the latest LXQt 2.2 desktop environment, Xubuntu 25.10 features the latest Xfce 4.20 desktop environment by default, Ubuntu Cinnamon 25.10 comes with the Cinnamon 6.4.12 desktop environment, and Ubuntu MATE 25.10 defaults to the MATE 1.26 desktop.
